About Grainpress
Grainpress is a publication for readers who want film photography covered with seriousness, clarity, and ambition. It treats the medium as a living practice shaped by tools, images, process, criticism, history, and contemporary culture.
Grainpress was founded in 2026 by David Comdico, a photographer and writer in Philadelphia. It was created in the spirit of the magazine culture that existed when he first began his journey in photography, a time when photography magazines were healthy, varied, and ambitious. Grainpress is intended to pick up where those publications left off, carrying that editorial tradition forward while taking coverage of film photography into the future.

A note on AI
Grainpress was built and is managed with the assistance of artificial intelligence. AI is used as a working tool under human direction, review, and editorial control.
Articles carrying an individual human byline are written by the person named. Articles credited to Grainpress Editors may be written with the assistance of AI, with human editorial oversight, copyediting, and revision before publication.
The goal at Grainpress is to eventually have human contributors produce all or most of our content. With your help, we will eventually reach that target. Please consider contributing to Grainpress.
